We are a people summoned, gathered and called out by God’s grace – not an organisation or a club.
We have been saved from evil by Jesus’ death, given new life through his resurrection. We are prisoners being set free, sinners being restored, people under [re]construction, humans learning what it means to be truly who we were made to be by our loving Creator God.
We are diverse in nature, appearance, history, capability and purpose, yet identical in value and worth and love: a body of different parts rather than a collective of clones. Weak and strong, well and unwell, male and female, all cultures, all capabilities. We are one in Jesus, who walks in our midst.
Not merely a community, but a Kingdom of God community – where the world’s values are understood but when they contradict the values of Jesus – we choose Jesus. We live out the purposes God has for our lives in the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
We are a local expression of the universal church – all those called out under the Lordship of Jesus.
We are not called out to ‘hang out until Jesus returns’ – or to do a few good things in his absence, but to operate fully in God’s leading every day of our lives, in word, thought and action.
We are the Church.
